LGBTQIA+ Pride
JUNE FEATURED CAUSE
At Booksio, we recognize that queer and transgender people deserve life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and we’re so excited to celebrate Pride all through the month of June. Since the Stonewall Uprising of 1969, LGBTQ+ people have been fighting for their rights to be seen, heard, and respected, and we are so proud to be in a country where queer and trans people have been afforded basic rights and protections through legal and legislative means.
However, we also cannot ignore that LGBTQ+ people are increasingly under attack. Violence against queer and trans people is on the rise, discrimination in housing and the workplace persists, and some groups are using LGBTQ+ folks as a wedge issue to gain political points. That’s why, at Booksio, we are proud to support three organizations doing the work to expand the rights and strengthen the affirmation of LGBTQ+ people everywhere.
-
The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) advocates for policy and societal changes to increase acceptance and understanding of transgender people, aiming for a world where they can thrive with self-determination and freedom from discrimination and violence. NCTE works on various initiativesto promote equity, justice, and well-being for transgender people and their families.
-
The Point Foundation empowers LGBTQ college students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential by providing financial support, a community of peers, leadership training, and mentorship, as well as generating research to document the challenges LGBTQ students face on US campuses. Their goal is to improve the equity and representation of LGBTQ people in various industries and ensure that they have equal access and opportunities in every sector.

The Trevor Project's mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ youth, and their vision is for all LGBTQ young people to see a bright future for themselves. They have five key programs, including crisis services, peer support, research, public education, and advocacy. The Trevor Project estimates that over 1.8 million LGBTQ youth in the United States are seriously considering suicide each year.
