Begun in 2013 after the shooting death of Black American teen Trayvon Martin, Black Lives Matter grew into a global social movement in the summer of 2020 seeking to highlight the racism, discrimination, and racial inequality experienced by Black people. At its core is a simple belief: All Lives Can’t Matter Until Black Lives Matter.
Here at Booksio, we believe Black Lives Matter is a social, political, and legal reality grounded in the lived experience of millions of our fellow American citizens. We want to do what we can to make a difference. In honor of Black Americans’ struggles for basic human rights and in the hopes of creating a more equitable and just American society, we will give 10% of all profits to the following transformative organizations:
Equal Justice Initiative – Founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, a widely acclaimed public interest lawyer and bestselling author of Just Mercy, Equal Justice Initiative provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, or abused in state jails and prisons. EJI challenges the death penalty and excessive punishment and provides re-entry assistance to formerly incarcerated people.
Thurgood Marshall College Fund – Established in 1987, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund is the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Through scholarships, research initiatives, innovative programs, and strategic partnerships, TMCF is a vital resource in the K-12 and higher education space. TMCF also helps top employers seeking talent for competitive internships and good jobs.
National Civil Rights Museum – Established in 1991, the National Civil Rights Museum is located at the former Lorraine Motel, where civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. Through interactive exhibits, historic collections, dynamic speakers and special events, the museum offers visitors a chance to walk through history and learn more about a tumultuous and inspiring period of change.

Booksio's September charitable theme centers on the fight against pediatric cancer. It's hard to imagine hearing the worst possible news about a child's health. At Booksio, we want to help in any way we can to end pediatric cancer, which means supporting worthwhile organizations that produce cutting-edge clinical research and make a difference in the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families.
During September, Booksio is proud to give 10% of all book and magazine sales to the following charities:
The American Cancer Society has been fighting against cancer since 1913 and continues to fund extraordinary efforts to educate communities, fund research, and provide prevention and screening resources.
The Cancer Research Institute The Cancer Research Institute funds cutting-edge immunotherapy cancer treatments and research, which can help pediatric cancer survivors fight against cancer while avoiding the damaging effects of traditional cancer treatments.
The Sunshine Kids Foundation The Sunshine Kids Foundation provides exciting, positive group activities and opportunities
for children with cancer so they have fun and celebrate life as children are meant to do.
